*obligatory grumble about DST*
There's nothing "spring" - y about this so-called "spring forward".
The Weekend's Reads
Barbary Station ~ R.E. Stearns
I need this book as a t.v. show. Not convinced to read it yet? Okay, here you go: a pair of female main characters - one an ex-soldier, one a systems expert - trying to join a pirate crew on a derelict space station run by an AI that haphazardly tries to kill off it's residents - but won't let them leave. That's really all you should need to know.
Read if: You are looking for diversity in your characters of all kinds (LGBTQIA, etc). You enjoy t.v. shows like Dark Matter, Killjoys, Firefly, or even The 100.
Warnings: Body modifications. Violence (heeeey, space pirates).
This was one of the most poetic, amazing love stories I've read in a long while. I didn't realize how different it could feel to read about a female love interest THROUGH a female gaze.
Oh, there's also fantastic world-building, plenty of action, politics, intrigue, the supernatural, and more than one quest. In case a non-mushy, dynamic, healthy romance isn't enough for you. And such a great supporting cast of well-developed characters. Just read it already!
Read if: You're looking for diversity in your next read (cultural, LGBTQIA). You want ALL the strong female characters. Seriously, all of them. No woobies here.
Warnings: Violence. Demons. Trauma and loss. Complex family relationships.
